A Pochade box is a simple light and portable studio all in the space of a modified cigar box.
With one I can paint wherever I want to work – outside, on holiday, in the car or even by the computer.
I got this one from PR Art.
Mine carries two boards 20 x 15 cm (8 x 6 inches).
It has a built in palette and a thumbhole underneath so I could paint standing up.
Boards are easily made from 2 or 3mm mdf, either primed with acrylic gesso and colour toned, or covered with thin cotton and then gessoed.
There’s just enough room for four or five tubes of paint, solvent, rag, knife and a couple of brushes – and that’s it!
